Hey guys, how you doin’?
Today I’m starting a new series called Beyond Books where I talk, well, about other things that aren’t books. It can be animes, tv shows, movies (including book adaptations). They will happen every once in a while, but don’t worry, this is still primarily a book blog. I simply felt the need to have some space to branch out a little and talk about other things I like too. Let me know if you like that kind of post, I’d appreciate the feedback.
All the ones listed here are newly released TV shows that I’ve watched at least one episode of and that I have the intention of watching at least another one. Here they are:
A Discovery of Witches
This is a british show based on a book of the same name, written by Deborah Harkness. I’ve never read it, so I don’t know what’s different from the show, but I watched the pilot and I thought it was pretty interesting. Obviously it’s about witches, but there are vamps in it too. While in the library, the protagonist – who’s researcher and a witch, comes across a mysterious book that the supernatural communty has been looking for ages. She wants nothing to do with it, or with magic apparently, but of course she ends up mixed in all this anyways. I’ve been wanting more supernatural shows to watch, so I fully intend to keep going with this one. This season is set to have 8 episodes.
Charmed (2018)
So, I never watched the original show, even though people seem to love it. I’m all about teen shows and most of what I watch comes from The CW anyways, so I decided to give this reboot a try. To be honest I was not very impressed with the pilot, but apparently some people enjoyed the next episodes so I’ll give the show more chances. I did say I wanted more supernatural shows, and apparently witches are on hype right now. This season is set to have 18 episodes.
Chilling Adventures of Sabrina
What did I say about witches? They’re going strong this season of TV. I was really excited to check this one out, even though is so different from the old and fun Sabrina The Teenage Witch version I loved as a kid. This dark approach is based on a comic book series of the same name by Archie Comics, which to my understanding is also responsible for the material the TV show Riverdale was based on. I’ve seen two episodes of Sabrina so far and you know what, I really liked it. It’s creepy and really twisted, but in a fun kind of way. I’ll certainly watch the rest of the season, even though we don’t have a speaking Salem. This season has 10 episodes.
Titans
I loved watching the Teen Titans cartoon when I was a kid, it’s one of those quality superhero animated shows I hold dear to my heart (like Justice League Unlimited, Batman: The Animated Series, and Young Justice). I admit it, when I heard they were taking a dark and broody approach to it I was not pleased, and when I saw the first trailer I was also not pleased, but it turns out the show is not bad like I thought. I’ve seen 3 episodes of it so far, and episode 2 was already much better than the pilot. I’m actually enjoying the show, and – even though I’m not 100% on board with everything yet – I’ll watch the whole season. I love me some superhero show (seriously I watch like 6 haha). This season is set to have 12 episodes and the show has already been renewed for a second year.
There are a few others I might check out, but for now that’s all folks! Now tell me, what did you think of this different subject? Have you seen any of these shows? Let me know in the comments. 😀
I’m enjoying the Charmed reboot a lot, I have watched 3 episodes and I wll definitely watch the rest of the season.
I’m glad you’re enjoying the new Sabrina show! I was a huge fan of the Sabrina The Teenage Witch version and I wasn’t sure if I wanted to watch this new one or not, but I think I’ll give it a chance.

I’ve seen only 2 episodes of the new charmed and I admit I’m still not on board, but it’s too early to tell. I’ll keep watching and see where it goes.
Yes, I’ve seen 4 or 5 eps of Sabrina and I’m really enjoying it so far. It’s very messed up and creepy, but I’ve kind of been in a mood for that so it works perfectly for me haha I hope you enjoy it, but it’s completely different from the old show, so beware.

Interesting post, I like seeing discussion of tv shows because I feel like the only blogs that talk about them are the Overly Opinionated Nerds Who Will Give You Their Opinion On Every Bit Of News Or Plot Twist Whether You Want It Or Not™ also glad to hear that about Titans, I was a little worried because the OG show was also a favorite and these things usually never live up to expectations
Also just now noticing this seeming witch trend, it’s almost like all these tv execs sat down to a meeting and said “hey, you know what we should do for Halloween? WITCH SHOWS!”

Thanks! Tv shows are a big part of my life too and I used to write about them for another blog, so I decided I should open a space for them in my own personal blog.
Yes, I was truly skeptical about Titans, but it turns out I’m really enjoying it. I’ve seen 5 eps so far.
Right? It’s like witches are making a come back, and I’m on board because I love witchy stories. There hasn’t been many of them lately.
